Brunetti, Faraday St, Carlton

Brunetti is a Melbourne cafe and cultural icon. It has been there for donkeys years but unlike say, Pellegrini’s, Brunetti gave itself a massive modern makeover(years ago). Indeed they have even branched out to franchise!

It’s generally very busy and has an order at the bar – carry your own purchase style set up. And the cakes, oh my god the cakes! Seriously a fat kid’s dream in there. Lots of salads and traditional Italian fare as well. Oh and gelato! An old bloke I chatted to from Leongatha said he has been coming to Brunetti’s for 25 years. That’s dedication and a happy customer!

The coffee can sometimes be a little bit hit and miss as they are so busy. But lately they have had the old Faema Machines cranking away perfectly with nearly an inch of crema in your freshly pressed long mach. Today was no exception. A beautiful long mach, no extra water added. Just a dollop of layered creamy milk to stain. All done very quickly. Seventh Heaven.

Rating:

16/20 (the coffee side was 10/10) but the vibe there is just a little school cafeteria for mine. Perhaps better when quiet (whenever that may be!).
